Art

Welcome to the St. Thomas More Catholic School Art page. We will have new and exciting lessons in every grade level.

The kindergarten class used their pointer finger to paint snowmen, then added details with chalk.

First graders are making a winter portrait with cut paper and oil pastels.  They looked at Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa for an example of a portrait.  Patterns were added to hats and mittens to make the portrait more interesting.

Penguins are the subject of second grades paper and paint collage pictures.  We created space using, placement and size to show close and far ground.

The third graders looked at examples of paintings by Grandma Moses and Mattie Lou O'Kelly's folk art showing life experiences of the artists.  Using oil pastels we created our "A Snowy Day in Elgin,Illinois" pictures showing a variety of winter activities we participate in.

"Winter City Scapes" are the themes used by the fourth graders for their paper collages.  Cities are full of colorful signs and objects.  Details showing these were added with fineline markers.

The fifth graders took a geometric shape and changed it into an organic shape.  We carefully created a shape we will use to make a tessellation design.

The sixth grade is working on Greek projects.  We are using metalic scratchboard and Greek motifs to decorate a vessel.

Radial printed designs are being created using artgum erasures.  A simple design is carved into erasure which will be used to print radial patterns.  We can also create rotation, transition and reflective patterns using the same stamp

We are weaving in eight grade.  Looms were measured, warped and prepared for a weaving done with various yarns.
